Emirates’ partnership with FIFA began at the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ when it became the first airline to be a sponsor of the prestigious sporting event. Following on from the success of the tournament in Germany, Emirates then cemented its status as an Official FIFA Partner up to and including the 2014 FIFA World Cup™.
Emirates, as the Official Airline of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, will be flying fans from around the world to South Africa throughout the tournament to support their teams, and live the unforgettable experience of a FIFA World Cup™.
Dubai-based Emirates, one of the world's fastest-growing airlines. Just 25 year’s old Emirates now has a fleet of 146 modern, wide-bodied aircraft and on average is taking delivery of one new aircraft a month. The airline currently flies to 102 destinations on six continents from its international hub of Dubai. This year, Emirates has launched two new routes to Tokyo and Amsterdam and will be adding Madrid, Prague and Dakar to its network during the year.
Emirates' standing is now much more than an airline. The company has evolved into a travel and tourism operation on a major scale, straddling numerous divisions and propelled forward under the umbrella of the Emirates Group, with more than 40 brands and employing over 50,000 people.
Emirates has won more than 400 customer awards for excellence since its introduction, as well as achieving a number of industry firsts. In March 2008, Emirates announced it was the first airline in the world to enable passengers to make authorised onboard mobile phone calls a mile in the sky. All Emirates' frontline facilities are now equipped to handle the Airbus A380, of which the airline is currently operating eight with another 82 on order. The airline's total order book numbers 144 aircraft valued at over US$48 billion.
Emirates has a long-standing commitment to sport sponsorships, and has been involved with a wide range of sporting events and teams around the world for over 20 years. Since 1987, only two years after its inception, Emirates began to build up its sponsorship portfolio, and today the airline is linked to some of the world’s leading sport events, spread across the six continents that Emirates flies non-stop to from Dubai.
Through the association with these prestigious sporting events, the airline also helps to promote Dubai as an international destination for sport, business and tourism.
The current sponsorship portfolio extends across football, rugby, cricket, sailing, horseracing, and tennis and includes some of the greatest and most popular sporting events in the world.
Alongside the partnership with FIFA, Emirates continues to grow its football portfolio. In 2004, Emirates and Arsenal Football Club signed the biggest club sponsorship in English football history. In addition to the Fly Emirates logo on the players’ shirts, Emirates also has naming rights of Arsenal’s home, the Emirates Stadium. Elsewhere, the airline sponsors Paris Saint Germain Football Club, Hamburger SV and Olympiacos FC. And most recently increased its sponsorship of Italian powerhouse AC Milan.
Emirates has a strong affiliation with rugby, demonstrated by becoming the first Worldwide Partner of Rugby World Cup 2011. It was the Principal Partner of the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2009, which took place in Dubai at Emirates’ newly built sporting venue, ‘The Sevens.’ The tournament was shown in over 200 countries via 29 broadcasters. Other rugby tournaments that the airline sponsors include four IRB Sevens World Series events in Dubai, South Africa, London and Edinburgh. Emirates is also the shirt sponsors of the England, Samoa and US sevens teams.
Emirates also sponsors the IRB referees and match officials, and Emirates Western Force in Australia.
As a leading supporter of golf tournaments across the globe, Emirates is the Official Airline at 14 events, including the Austrian Open; BMW International Open; Dubai Desert Classic; HSBC Champions, as well as being the Official Airline of the 2010 Ryder Cup being hosted in Wales.
Emirates’ ICC Official Partner status gives the airline sponsorship rights to all ICC major tournaments, including the 2011 and 2015 ICC Cricket World Cups, ICC Champions Trophy and ICC World Twenty20, as well as the Elite Panel of Umpires and Referees.
Emirates is the Main Sponsor of the Kings XI Punjab Indian Premier League team and also a sponsor of the Lord’s Taverners cricket charity, and the Emirates Airline Pro ARCH Tournament.
In horseracing, Emirates is title sponsor of the US$10 million Dubai World Cup, the world’s richest race and Official Airline of the Dubai International Racing Carnival. Further afield, Emirates sponsors the Emirates Melbourne Cup, Australian Jockey Club’s Carnival and Melbourne Cup Carnival.
Emirates is Official Carrier of the Dubai Tennis Championships and the Roger’s Cup in Canada. The airline is also a three-year sponsor of the recently-signed BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California.
Emirates is the title sponsor of Emirates Team New Zealand, winner of the 2007 Louis Vuitton Cup Challenge Series. Emirates Team New Zealand will be competing in next year’s TP52 Med Cup Series, the 33rd America’s Cup, and will compete in the 2011 -2012 Volvo Ocean Race in association with Camper
