On Sunday 26 August, the Sepp Blatter tournament in Ulrichen was held under sunny skies in the Valais area of Switzerland. The atmosphere was relaxed and festive, with the FIFA Dream Team winning the tournament 3-2 thanks to goals from two former Swiss internationals: Kubilay Turkyilmaz and Stephane Chapuisat.
"We started back in 1998 with 50 spectators. Today, we're up to 1,000 - five times the population of Ulrichen!" smiled Joseph S. Blatter. The FIFA President was Dream Team captain and saw his side win the tournament, beating Team 2000 3-2. He was lucky enough to have some of the greatest names in the history of football sporting blue FIFA jerseys for the occasion, including Franz Beckenbauer, Michel Platini, Gabriel Calderon and Stephane Chapuisat. The tournament even had an international referee in the form of Nicole Petignat!
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day, none more so than Gabriel Calderon, who was turning out for the sixth time. "I consider it a privilege to be invited by the President. It's like a big family that he has around him here in Ulrichen, and I'm delighted to be a part of it," the Argentinian smiled.
