FIFA rejects Simunic appeal; sanctions for discrimination upheld

The FIFA Appeal Committee has decided to reject the appeal lodged by Croatian international Josip Simunic and to confirm the decision rendered by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee on 12 December 2013 in its entirety.

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee had suspended Simunic for ten official matches, the first of which have to be served during the final competition of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™, is banned from entering the confines of the stadiums for those ten matches and also fined CHF 30,000.

The sanctions were imposed following a display of discriminatory behaviour by the player after the final whistle of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ European play-off match between Croatia and Iceland played in Zagreb, Croatia, on 19 November 2013.

The decision taken by the FIFA Appeal Committee was communicated to the player, the Croatian Football Association and UEFA today.
