Professional Career
After completing his studies at the Freiburg and Heidelberg Universities, Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder took a Law degree in 1959 and soon joined the Ministry of the Interior of the German federal state of Baden-Wurttemberg, to be appointed Permanent Secretary at the State Ministry Baden-Württemberg in 1976.

From 1980 to 1991, he was Minister of Culture and Sports and later headed the Ministry of Finance from 1991 to 1998. A member of the Baden-Württemberg parliament (Landtag) for more than two decades since 1980, Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder was bestowed numerous political functions and offices. At the same time, he represented his native state on the Bundesrat, the upper house of the German Parliament, from 1980 to 1998. Since 2001 he is President of the German Football Association.
