The nights may be getting longer and darker in Europe, but the November issue of FIFA World brings guaranteed sunshine as FIFA's official monthly magazine turns its attention to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup taking place in Dubai next month - and also takes a look back at the sport's impressive growth from a cult hobby to an internationally-followed sporting spectacle.
The more established, grass version of our game is of course not forgotten, as we celebrate Ghana's historic achievement last month in becoming the first African country to win the FIFA U-20 World Cup. With just weeks to go until the Final Draw for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™, preparations for FIFA's flagship tournament also feature heavily, with an update on ticketing, the state of the new stadiums and news of the major music concert which is scheduled to take place on the eve of the competition.
As always, the magazine has also been keeping a close eye on FIFA's activities off the pitch and in the November issue we take an in-depth look at the work that has been carried out by FIFA and its partners to restore both sporting infrastructure - and hope - in the countries devastated by the Indian Ocean tsunami whose ferocity shocked the world almost exactly five years ago.
At a more political level, we examine how the FIFA leadership is continuing to protect football through its ongoing efforts to maintain the universality of sport and secure greater autonomy from government influence. On the medical side, we have a report from October's first ever FIFA Medical Conference highlighting the measures being taken by FIFA's medical experts to safeguard the health of footballers and the general public as a whole.
