Australia and DPR Korea warmed up for May’s 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup™ qualifying tournament with a two-match series in Brisbane.

The first contest ended 2-2 with the visitors opening the scoring through 2008 FIFA U-17 World Cup star Yun Hyon Hi. Second-half goals from Kate Gill and Lisa De Vanna had the Australians on target for victory until Yun scored her second four minutes from full time.

The second encounter had an even more dramatic conclusion with Australian substitute Kyah Simon scoring a last-minute winner for a 3-2 victory. Again the match was played in slippery conditions with Sarah Walsh scoring from close-range for the home side midway through the first half.

Jo Yun Mi replied soon after with Kate Gill equalising from the penalty spot moments before half-time. Kim Yong Hui equalised for the second time eight minutes after the interval before teenage star Simon grabbed the winner.

The top three teams at the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in Chengdu, China will qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany 2011.
