As a CIES Partner since 2010, the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC) Madrid and the Real Federación Española de Fútbol (RFEF) have officially launched the registration process for the fourth edition of the FIFA/CIES Programme. Teaching will then commence on 5 October 2013.

Over 120 students from different professional and sporting backgrounds have already undertaken this intensive Programme which provides students with the modern management tools needed in the areas of marketing, sponsorship, law, management, communication, finance and organization of sporting events. The Programme also offers students the opportunity to participate in conferences which are led by high profile experts from the sports industry both internationally and nationally.

"This Programme gave me an overview of the sports industry. Not only do you learn from all the experts who will share their knowledge but also your classmates through their experiences, their questions, their personal experiences. Also, the opportunity for networking has been rewarding for me," said Sonia Calvo, a student of the first edition.

"I was able to acquire many tools thanks to the Programme. These tools will allow me to make the most of the experience I have gained over 22 years as a football player and to manage a sports entity efficiently," added César Sánchez, a former professional football player who attended the third edition of the Programme.

For his part, Carlos Velasco Carballo, an international football referee, summed his experience up as follows: "The diversity of subjects taught and the quality of student profiles enriched me enormously. Now I know better where I should direct the next stage of my professional life."

It is also noteworthy that four students who attended the second edition of the Programme in Spain, Sandra Ávila Tinoco, Fernando Corral Collantes, Erika Montemor Ferreira and Regina Schmidt Rio-Valle, won the 2013 FIFA/CIES International University Network Prize, for their work on the debt of Spanish football clubs, its causes and possible solutions.
