As a CIES partner since 2006, the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) in Port Elizabeth (South Africa) has officially launched the 5th edition of the NMMU/FIFA/CIES Sports Management Programme. The courses will start on 3 October 2011.
The Programme enjoys an excellent reputation in South Africa, in particular thanks to its close ties with many sports entities, local governments and communities. As indicated by Vernon Oosthuizen, the programme coordinator at the University: "I think that the reputation and credibility of the NMMU/FIFA/CIES Programme has increased regularly for various reasons: the quality of the course material, the exchange of experience among students, the repute of the international and local speakers and the links offered by the programme (FIFA, CIES, international experts). I also consider the value for money to be excellent. Although, at the beginning, some considered this curriculum to be expensive, that opinion is currently changing. The students acknowledge the value of what they receive in the classroom and can compare our content with that of similar curricula - a positive comparison for us".
NMMU/FIFA/CIES Programme alumni also focus on the strong points of the Programme: “I definitely recommend the FIFA/CIES Programme in Sport Management It promotes the development of good management principles while recognising the distinctive environment within the nation in which the course is offered”emphasizes Solomon Mudege, who also studied for the FIFA Master's Degree and who currently works at FIFA headquarters in Zurich. For his part, Marthinus Bosse, the Vice-President of the South African Wrestling Federation, adds: "The Programme met and even exceeded my expectations. There is no doubt that I have become a better manager thanks to my newly acquired knowledge (…). The Programme opens new horizons for students and allows them to change the mindset in which they work. The advantages are huge in terms of management of a federation or of a club".
The NMMU/FIFA/CIES Programme allows people from various professional and sporting horizons to familiarise themselves with modern management tools in key areas such as marketing, sponsorship, law, management, communication, finances and event management. Adapted to regional and national realities, it also offers the opportunity to attend lectures given by international experts invited by FIFA and CIES. The Programme is currently organised in 13 countries, namely: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Egypt, Palestine, Senegal, South Africa, Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, the Ukraine and Venezuela.
As a closing remark, Vernon Oosthuizen adds: "Since I have been involved in the Programme, I have been able to observe the development of new links and closer relationships through the FIFA/CIES International University Network. Today, new formal and informal cooperation has developed among partner universities. In the medium term, I have no doubt that the Programme will become the "number 1" choice for those who want to take sports management a step further, for example those interested in registering for the FIFA Master's Degree".
Deadline for enrolment: 15 August 2011
