The School of Physical Education and Sport of the University of Costa Rica (UCR) officially launched the third edition of the UCR/FIFA/CIES Programme last week in San Jose. Twenty five students will participate twice a week in the classes until the end of July 2011.
The new students were given the opportunity to get to know their future fellow students as well as members of the teaching staff. They come from different fields of sport, which proves the importance which the Programme has gained in the education landscape of Costa Rica. It should be noted that for the first time the students of Costa Rica will take part in the competition for the best group work of the FIFA/CIES International University Network.
Guest of honour of the of the opening ceremony, Henry Nuñez, President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC), underlined the progress achieved in national sport management since the commencement of the co-operation between UCR and CIES: “Our country has finally understood the importance of the education of sport managers. Previously, there existed almost nothing. Today, one can perceive a new dynamism of which an increasing number of sport organisations of our country take advantage.”
For her part, Carmen Grace Salazar, the new director of the School of Physical Education and Sport, emphasized the importance that the Programme has attained for the University of Costa Rica, which soon will renew its contract of co-operation with CIES.
For 2012 UCR and CIES envisage to offer the Programme to all Spanish speaking countries of Central America in the form of intensive courses of three weeks.
