The CIES Football Observatory is fully supported by FIFA and is the fruit of a joint effort by the CIES (International Center for Sports Studies) and the Université of Franche-Comté (France).
Its main objective is to provide a detailed statistical analysis of the football players' labour market in the "big five" European leagues. The analysis is carried out from a triple perspective: training of players, international recruitment and professional mobility. Its exclusive set of indicators allow for both the spatial (between countries) and temporal (between seasons) comparison of the data.
Each September, a richly illustrated and bilingual Review (English and French) looks at the previous season and analyses its most interesting aspects, illustrated in tables, graphics and maps. The Annual Review of the European Football Players' Labour Market offers a wide array of rankings for individual clubs and a statistical analysis explaining their sporting results. This publication is an essential tool, addressing the needs of all professionals involved in football as well as the passionate football fan.
The website, available both in English and French, offers on-line access to the data and gives the possibility to compare all the indicators according to multiple criteria. Users can interactively create their own personalized maps and graphs, automatically generated by the website's exclusive and powerful software.
