The 11th Sepp Blatter Football Tournament took place in Ulrichen, Switzerland on Sunday. And as has now become customary, the event provided a perfect opportunity for FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter to bring together friends and personalities from the football world for an enjoyable day out.

After welcoming guests to the village of his birth, which has a population of 240, the FIFA President prepared them for the day's exertions by laying on white wine and the famous Swiss cheese dish, raclette. Figuring high on the list of dignitaries were UEFA president Michel Platini and Franz Beckenbauer, both familiar faces at this annual event, and another distinguished guest in the shape of new Switzerland coach Ottmar Hitzfeld.

Blatter made sure the former Bayern Munich trainer received the warmest of welcomes by serving him a dish of raclette. "I was involved in the promotion of tourism to the Valais region for many years and if there's one thing I know, it's how to serve raclette," said the FIFA President as he filled the plate of his long-time friend. "We met back in 1972 when he was playing for West Germany at the Olympics."

"He has a magnificent record, one that speaks for itself," added Blatter, who believes the German's appointment can only be beneficial for the Nati. "Hitzfeld lives right next to the border and is pretty much Swiss anyway. The fact that he knows the many different aspects of our country is a tremendous advantage."

The tournament host was celebrating his tenth anniversary as president of the world game's governing body, a celebration hosted at a stadium that now bears his name. "It's the first time a FIFA President has ever had his own stadium," continued Blatter after the new pitch had been blessed by the village priest.

As for the football, which was, after all, the official reason for the get-together, the FIFA Team ran out comfortable 8-2 winners over Team 2000.
