FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter has sent a letter of condolence to Turkey’s Football Federation (TFF) President Yildirim Demiroren upon learning of the death of Selcuk Yula at the age of 53.

“Personally, and on behalf of FIFA, I would like to extend my sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Selcuk Yula, to you and to everyone at the Turkish Football Federation. Our thoughts and sympathy are with you at this time of sadness,” wrote the FIFA President.

Yula played for Fenerbahce between 1979 and 1986 where he scored 134 goals for the Turkish powerhouse. Additionally, he tallied four goals in his 22 caps for Turkey.

Speaking about the man who would later become “a popular pundit for his work on Fenerbahce's official club TV channel and more broadly as a columnist for several Turkish sports newspapers,” President Blatter added: “Selcuk Yula will be sorely missed!”

Yula passed away the morning of 6 August after suffering a heart attack.

“We would hope that in some way, our words of support may help bring a little bit of peace and solace in this time of sadness,” concluded the FIFA President’s letter to Demiroren.
