FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter has sent a letter of condolence to the Croatian Football Federation upon learning of the death of Alen Pamic at the age of 24.
Pamic, a defensive midfielder who played for Istra 1961, passed away on Friday while playing an indoor game of five-a-side. He started his professional career in 2009 at HNK Rijeka and then moved to Standard Liege in Belgium, before moving to Istra in 2011.
A period of silence in memory of Pamic was planned before Croatia’s game with Uzbekistan in Bursa at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
“I am shocked and very sorry that such a young football player lost his life during a recreational game,” wrote the FIFA President. “He was a tough and energetic midfielder. I imagine that his life was full of confidence, future plans and a lot of dreams. Alen Pamic will be sorely missed.”
