FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter has paid his respects to Bursaspor president Ibrahim Yazici, who has died at the age of 65.

The Turkish club’s president died following a heart attack and Blatter, who recently visited Turkey ahead of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in June, wrote to Yildirim Demiroren, president of the Turkish Football Federation, to express his sorrow at the news.

“It is with great sadness in my heart that I write to you today, having learned of the passing of Bursaspor president İbrahim Yazıcı,” President Blatter said. “On behalf of FIFA and the international football family, I wish to extend our deepest condolences to the Turkish football community and, most importantly, to the family, friends and loved ones of İbrahim Yazıcı.

“We hope that in some way, our words of support may help bring a little bit of peace and solace in this time of sadness.”
