FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter has sent a letter of condolence and support to Thailand’s Prime Minister, Mrs Yingluck Shinawatra, in the wake of the extensive flooding that has ravaged the southeast Asian nation.

The rising floodwaters have killed hundreds of people in Thailand, left untold thousands homeless and wreaked havoc throughout the entire country. “In the face of such a situation, it’s imperative that your country receives the support of the international community,” Blatter said in the letter, which was sent on 26 October from FIFA’s headquarters in Zurich.

“We are at the [Thai] football association’s disposal at this difficult time in a spirit of solidarity and hope we can be of assistance,” he continued. “I would like to express also my deep sympathy to the Thailand People already affected by this flood, particularly to all the families of the victims.”
