FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter has written to his Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) President Mr Makhdoom Syed Saleh Hayat to express solidarity and offer support after floods devastated the country.
Over 2,000 people were killed and in excess of 700,000 homes were damaged by the floods, which began following heavy monsoon rain last month. The PFF headquarters in Lahore were unaffected by the tragedy, which Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani revealed had left over 20 million people homeless.
I would like to express my deep sympathy to the Pakistani people and the Pakistani football family. We are at you and your association’s disposal in the spirit of solidarity.
“I would like to express my deep sympathy to the Pakistani people and the Pakistani football family,” wrote President Blatter. “It is imperative that your country receives the support of the international community.
“We are at you and your association’s disposal at this terrible time in the spirit of solidarity, and ask you to let us know how we may be of assistance,” he concluded.
