Beginning a short trip to Ecuador on Sunday, FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter showed his continuing support for the women’s game by attending the closing day of the South American championship.

And in a special ceremony prior to the final game of the competition, Blatter was appointed an ambassador to the Special Olympic Games along with CONMEBOL President Nicolas Leoz and the President of the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) Luis Chiriboga.

The President of world football’s governing body then settled down to watch Brazil, who had already won the tournament, maintain their unbeaten record with a 3-1 defeat of Chile.

In the day’s first match Colombia clinched second place with a 1-0 victory over Argentina, a result that takes them through with A Seleção to the FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany 2011™ and the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament London 2012, two notable firsts for Las Cafeteras. Brazil striker Marta was named player of the tournament.
